- I'm currently trying to build a KickStart 2.04 ROM card for my old Amiga A1000.
-
- I've built a small (prototype) PCB with a socket for an ordinary 2.04 KickStart
- ROM chip. The PCB also has four rows of pins that connects to my A1000's
- Odd & Even BootStrap ROM sockets. The three missing address lines (A16-A18)
- is connected to the 68000's corresponding address pins.
-
- The problem is that the damn thing won't work !
- I only get a red screen (that tells me that I've got a kickstart
- checksum error).
-
- I've checked the *CS signal with an oscilloscope and confirmed that the
- system tries to access the ROM for about 20-30 cycles before the screen
- goes red.
-
- I suspect that there's a conflict with the A1000's 256 kByte KickStart RAM
- memory bank that's mapped between to address areas by some PAL signal...
- Sadly, I can't remember which signal it is, and where it's generated :-(
-
- I wonder if someone else has done this modification with success, and did
- he/she made some modifications on the motherbord or the sandwichboard ?
-
- The connections between the 2.04 ROM sockect and the two old ROM connectors has
- been at least triple checked. I've even swapped the Odd/Even Datasignals
- but I didn't get a red screen though, only a boring black one...
-
- The 2.04 ROM works fine in my A2000 & A500, so that's not the problem either.
-
- Thanks for any advice on this problem !
-
- (Please reply both UseNet & to my E-mail address since I'm going away for
- my eastern holidays until 9:th of April.
